Your positioning statement defines the strategic ground you’re claiming, and your messaging framework is how that strategy becomes language - the specific words, proof points and narratives your team uses consistently across every channel and conversation. This framework is built on the Product Marketing Alliance messaging house methodology (I find it to be the most logical and rigorous), adapted for founders and early stage teams who need a practical, executable system without a full product marketing function. Complete your Positioning Framework in 05.1 before starting this template. Your positioning statement is the ‘roof’ of the messaging house - everything below it must be traceable back to it.

PART 1 — MESSAGING FOUNDATION

Anchor Everything to Your Positioning

<aside> 💡

Before you write a single message, document your positioning statement here. Every message you create in this framework should be traceable back to this statement. If a message cannot be connected to your positioning, it does not belong in your framework.

MESSAGING FOUNDATION

Field Your Input
Positioning statement (from 05.1) [Paste your completed positioning statement]
Primary target persona [From your ICP — Section 03]
Master message — the single most important takeaway [One sentence — if your customer remembers nothing else, they remember this]
Primary objection to overcome [The single biggest barrier to purchase — from your ICP and interview work]

PART 2 — The Messaging House

<aside> 💡

Your three value pillars are the core of your messaging house. Each pillar represents a distinct dimension of value your product delivers - chosen at the intersection of what your ICP cares about most, where your product is genuinely strong, and where you are differentiated from alternatives. Three pillars is the right number for most early-stage products. Fewer and you risk being one-dimensional. More and your message becomes unfocused.

Every message in your framework sits beneath one of these three pillars. If a message cannot be connected to a pillar, it does not belong in your framework.

PERSONA MESSAGE MAPPING

Your three pillars do not change. But different personas within your ICP will respond more strongly to different pillars - and will need different evidence to be convinced. This table maps your pillar messaging to your key personas so your team knows how to adjust emphasis depending on who they are talking to.
