PART 1 - BRAND FOUNDATION

Why You Exist

<aside> 💡

Your brand foundation answers the most fundamental questions about your company - why you exist beyond making money, what you believe and what you stand for. These aren’t marketing statements. They’re internal convictions that drive external behaviour.
Customers cannot always articulate why they trust one brand over another - but it almost always comes back to whether the brand's foundation feels authentic and consistent.

Brand purpose - why does your company exist, beyond making money?

Instructions: Your purpose is not what you do - it’s why you do it. It should be true, specific to your company and genuinely motivating to the people who work there and the customers you serve. Avoid generic purpose statements like 'to help businesses grow' - these could apply to any company in any industry.

Worked Example:

Whitehorse Labs exists to close the gap between brilliant products and the customers who need them - because so many great ideas fail not from lack of merit, but from lack of commercial rigour.

Brand mission - what are you specifically trying to achieve?

Instructions: Your mission is more specific than your purpose. It defines what you are building and for whom, and it should be achievable in a defined timeframe.

Brand vision - what does success look like in five to ten years?

Instructions: Your vision is aspirational. It describes the future state you are working towards - the change you want to see in your market or in the world.
