The most intellectually demanding section in the GTM OS. This is where you make some hard choices - who your product is for, what you do better than anyone else, and why potential customers should care.
Don’t expect that you can go to market with weak positioning and messaging, and customers will flock to buy your product just because you think it’s good. Everyone thinks their own product is good.
The whole way through this section, imagine you are in front of a potential customer who is asking you: ‘So what? You’re one of many businesses trying to sell me a product all day every day. It never stops. Why the hell should I care about your product?’
Everything downstream gets easier when this is done well.

Work through these templates in order - each one builds on the last.
Where you make the core strategic choices: who you are for, what category you compete in, what makes you different, and why that difference matters.
05.2 — Value Proposition Canvas + Jobs to Be Done
Where you ground your positioning in the specific jobs your customer is trying to get done, the pains they experience, and the gains they are seeking.
Where your positioning strategy becomes language: headline, subheadline, proof points, and objection responses.
05.4 - Evergreen Campaign Messaging House
Where your messaging is organised into a coherent architecture that ensures consistency across your website, sales materials, campaigns, and team.

By completing this section you’ll have done something most of your competitors haven’t.
You’ll have a clear and defensible position in your market - a positioning statement you can defend, a messaging framework your whole team can work from, and a messaging architecture that scales as you grow. That foundation is what separates companies that are easy to buy from companies that have to be explained.

Next: Section 06 — Brand Strategy and Foundations Your positioning defines the strategic ground you are claiming. Your brand defines how you show up to claim it — your voice, your visual identity, your values, and the experience you create at every touchpoint. The two work together. Neither is complete without the other.
